In the past, there were many glassworks in Slovakia. The first known glass guild was founded in 1579 in Kremnica and brought together not only glassmakers, but also window makers. In addition to utilitarian glass, craftsmen also had to produce sheet or technical glass. The processing of the ÚSVIT crystal was based on the traditions of Slovak cut glass, which became famous worldwide.

Valaská Belá – Prievidza – the tradition of hand-made glassmaking

In 1747, the Jesuits from Trenčín founded a glass factory in the village of Gápel, which belongs to the municipality of Valaská Belá, where until 1929 they produced, in addition to plate glass, blown hollow glass. Then the production moved to the village of Valaská Belá.

The Sklený sen association continues the tradition of this region by establishing a unique small open-air glass museum, the only one in Slovakia with a live demonstration of production.
